Kawakawa Balm

DIY

Kawakawa balm is a traditional, natural remedy known for its soothing and healing properties across a wide range of skin conditions, including dryness, irritation, eczema, and minor cuts or inflammation. It’s gentle enough to be used as a baby balm, helping to calm sensitive skin, nappy rash, and general skin discomfort. So quick and easy to make at home!

**** NOTE: You’ll need to have your Kawakawa leaves picked and pre infused in the oil for 24-36 minimum for best results! I often leave mine for months.

You’ll Need
1 large handful of Kawakawa leaves (with holes is good)
250ml or olive oil OR 125ml olive + 125ml fractionated coconut oil
100-150g beeswax (use 100g for a softer balm that is great for a baby bottom balm)
10 drops tea tree 10 drops lavender
10 drops frankincense

Method
1. Infuse the leaves in the oil mix - Crush up the kawakawa leaves and place them into the oil. Leave to infuse for 24–36 hours minimum.

2. When you are ready to make the balm, heat the oil and leaf mix gently on a low temperature.

3. Stir and continue to crush the leaves for 10–15 minutes.

4. Remove the leaves from the oil.

5. Add beeswax in small amounts, stirring until melted and fully combined.

6. Remove from heat and add essential oils when it’s slightly cooled.

7. Pour into small clean jars and allow to set completely.
